Château de La Chaize
19/06/2020

After obtaining “High Environmental Value” (HEV) certification from the French Ministry of Agriculture as part of the restructuring of its vineyard and the estate in general, Château de La Chaize has given itself the main mission of converting the totally of the vineyards over to organic viticulture.

We began this restructuring by converting the plots located in the heart of the estate, on the Brouilly appellation. This first step consists in precisely monitoring the evolution of the plots with precision and to assimilating the conversion process. Then, it will be extended to more distant vineyards and in particular those located on the Côte de Brouilly and Fleurie Crus.

In order to optimise the implementation of Organic Agriculture, organic cultivation trials had already been carried out on the Brouilly plots, from the purchase of the estate was bought by the GRUY family in 2017.

Since the summer of 2019, all of the Brouilly plots have been engaged in Organic Agriculture. The external plots are being converted as replanting takes place. The objective is that from 2024, the entire estate will be certified.

Thus, the first vintage of Château de La Chaize to be officially certified in organic viticulture will be 2022 on the Brouilly cru. The 2020 and 2021 vintages will be able to bear the mention "Conversion to organic viticulture ".
